About Us
Leading Edge is the longest running hockey development school in the Comox Valley entering into its 14th consecutive year. Since 1993 the focus has been and will continue to be to provide leading edge, top quality hockey instruction in a positive and supportive environment, combining to make an enjoyable camp experience.
Our goal is to treat each player as an individual and to encourage the development and refinement of their potential hockey skills. This is accomplished through a 1 to 6, coach – player ratio in the majority of our programs. This teaching ratio fosters in-depth personal attention, and the ability to adapt each and every drill to suit each player’s specific developmental needs. Coaches are assigned 6 players for the week and spend 80% of his / her ice time with that small group. This creates a close coach – player bond, to build confidence and to create a positive and rewarding environment.
Based on our philosophy of providing top quality hockey instruction we have structured our programs and their content to optimize skill development based on the theory that, “to truly develop a skill one needs to practice a little bit every day,” rather then spending countless hours in just five days. Leading Edge programs are set up to support this theory by providing a four-week program: the first two weeks consist of one hour sessions of the Power Skating Certificate Program, the third week is a choice between either a Main Camp or Elite Conditioning camp, and the final week is a choice between, or combination of specialty clinics, for example; Offensive Tactics Clinic, Defensive Tactics Clinic, Semi-Private Power Skating or the most popular Pond Hockey. An added bonus is that our four-week program leads into Minor Hockey’s September start-up, and rep try-outs. Players will be prepared to perform their best.
Leading Edge has a high percentage of returning players year after year, some for as many as eight and nine years. We attribute this to the personal attention paid to each and every player that participates in our programs.
